Every character in the text counts, including letters, numbers, punctuation, emoji, and spaces. The "no spaces" count removes all whitespace characters.
How does Twitter count characters?
Twitter counts most characters as 1, but URLs are always wrapped to 23 characters regardless of their actual length. Emoji typically count as 2 characters. This tool counts raw characters to give you a baseline.
What is an SMS multipart message?
A single SMS segment supports up to 160 GSM-7 characters. When a message exceeds 160 characters it becomes a multipart (concatenated) message. Each part then has a reduced capacity of 153 characters due to header overhead, giving a practical limit of 306 characters for a 2-part message.
