How does unit conversion work?
Each unit has a known ratio to a base unit (e.g. meters for length, kilograms for weight). To convert from unit A to unit B, the value is first converted to the base unit by multiplying by A's ratio, then divided by B's ratio.
Why is temperature different from other conversions?
Temperature scales (Celsius, Fahrenheit, Kelvin) are not proportional — they have different zero points. Fahrenheit and Celsius use offset formulas (e.g. °F = °C × 9/5 + 32), while Kelvin is an absolute scale starting at absolute zero.
How precise are the results?
Results use up to 10 significant figures and are formatted to remove trailing zeros. Very large or very small values are shown in scientific notation. For most practical purposes this exceeds the precision needed.
